GDC Raw Style: Battlefield 3 First Look

Thought I'd give my impressions of the first glimpse of Battlefield 3 single player content, which made its debut tonight at EA's big event.  I just threw on the camera in the room in which I'm staying for the Game Developer's Conference, without much prep, so these are my raw first impressions.  A trailer should be up all over the web tonight, too, but I don't know exactly what is in it, compared to what I saw being played.  Anyway, it is the most exciting thing I've seen at the show so far, much to my surpise, as you'll see here...

It is uncanny valley. But will the multiplayer look and feel the same? They also need to have a commander mode. It helped to make BF2 the best multiplayer game made.

Looks great, but, like you said, how will it look on the consoles? I don't game that much on my PC. But this may entice me to upgrade my graphics.

    Three questions:
    1. Is that a banana palm behind you?
    2. Is it real?
    and, most importantly
    3. Is it trying to bite you?
Take care Jeff, I know how dangerous evil banana palm trees are.
    :)
Oh, yeah, thanks for first impressions. Good job man.

Jeff, I gotta say, I really thought I was done and had moved on from ea and the whole Battlefield series. I put in countless hours in 1942, Vietnam, and bf2. After that it all seemed to just rehash old content. After seeing the trailer and hearing your comments (Your opinion often mirrors my own experiences), I am actually excited to see this game. I hope the multiplayer experience is as strong with massive 32 and 64 player battles. The one thing I am waiting on is how the lan support will be. I am a regular at a PDXLAN which is a several times a year 500 person lan party in Portland, OR. I miss being able to run local servers and actually have lan play that is not crippled by wan issues.

Keep the behind the scenes videos coming!

Great stuff Jeff, thanks for the heads up about BF3, pooping my pants I'm so excited about it. Seems like the envelope is about to be well and truely shoved off a cliff.

Found out about this on WC, where I love your work btw. Have to admit I"m a little fatigued with the TRS, had to unsub, so it was nice to find out about this.

I think you've got way more to say than opportunities to say it!

Forgot to mention: you explicitly mention in this week's WC that you are "pro consumer". This has always been apparent, but it was great to hear since I feel like buyers are besieged from all sides these days. Of course for an artist, the art is priority so this is a great aspect of your commentary.

Wow, coming to grips with the instinct to troll the internet generates. I'm a big fan, but I was about to write something that wouldn't come across as a joke, yuck. Keep up the work Jeff, you're an inspiration to many people to be come better every day.

The Battlefield 3 footage is amazing. Just unbelievable. The fluidity of the animations is jaw-dropping. It makes every other game until now look like last-gen. Time for Sony to get cracking on the PS4?

    Hello
I was looking to get some exposure for my channel, and your blog looks like a very promising place to find it.
You may have noticed the large flux of "Mind Heist" and "Heart of Courage" trailers coming out since the BF3 trailer releases. I promise you, mine is of a highly respectable standard. If you would please most kindly take the time out to view, and most importantly, enjoy this video, perhaps I could secure a small place on your blog?
