Battle: Los Angeles And The Collection

On this week's vlog, I catch up on Battle: Los Angeles, which Alex and Dan reviewed without me on TRS, and answer one of your questions about my board game collection.  Send more questions and comments to jeffcannata@gmail.com

I thought it's awesome too! It took the point of view of the armies instead of regular civilians run-for-their-life sequences. And did not brought up super powerful, 'undefeatable' aliens, we could finally have a real fight with them, I loved this movie, I think it has found a way to showing us an unique alien invasion flick.
Too bad that the critical reviews are not that good.

Hey Jeff, great review of Battle LA. I've been meaning to find some time to go to the cinema to see it. Might have to rewatch TRS to see what the other guys said exactly. Keep up the awesome videos, they're definitely a great addition(content-wise) to your blog. Peace out! =]

Mr. Cannata is the real deal. In fact he is so business that he's demonstrating his "Fighting Cobra Hand Hypo-Stare Pose" in the still image in this video post. That is the last thing his board game victims see before he puts the big hurt on them. So consider yourselves warned peoples.

Kind of surprised with your review of Battle: LA, Jeff. It's been getting such lousy reviews from a lot of prominent critics that I'd kind of written this movie off. I'll have to re-evaluate that stance and check it out.

Great seeing your board game collection. If I may make a suggestion, you should look into getting the Seafarers of Catan expansion. It really adds to the game, I think. I have all of the Catan expansion sets, and it's the only must-buy, IMHO. Cities and Knights is also a good expansion and some people think it's the bee's knees, but it changes the rules fairly drastically in ways I'm not sure I like as much as the original. I'm surprised you don't have the 5-6 player expansion for Catan. We always seem to have more than 4 players, so I think they're a must-have. No Ticket to Ride? Too mainstream for you? I'd also recommend Monty Python Fluxx.

JC, I wish Alex and Dan would do this when they miss a movie or something. Alex seems to be the best at not seeing movies, though. Too many live Diggnations, I guess. ;-) Doesn't he understand that TRS is the better show? Live TRS!! :-D

Really? The action and combat is a lot of fun. For anyone who got excited by the trailer, you should absolutely see the movie. But, the drama and the character building is all pretty much worthless. Most reviews have mocked the "little marine" dialog. But, for me, the biggest laugh is the notion that his squad thinks Eckhart's character is a coward. That conflict is more than put on and continues even after he risks his life multiple time for the rest of the squad and the civilians.

The movie really is a montage of war movie cliches and it's sci-fi elements are limited to where exactly you should shoot an alien.

The movie was amazing but I think it could be better without all those advertisements before the movie related to Buy Viagra, it was something really annoying.
