A Lone Voice in the Woods
I was recently a guest on the fantastic /Filmcast show, helping the regular hosts review Cabin in the Woods. Turns out I was the only one of the 4 of us who didn't absolutely love the movie. What did you think? Agree with my criticisms? Listen to the show here.

Always great listening to a Cannata podcast.
I agreed with your criticisms, but they didn't give me the same feeling about the film overall. I loved the film and enjoyed the hell out of it, but your critiques do show how it could have been truly special (e.g., Rube Goldberg rather than magic gas, a more interesting choice than zombies). The film's flaws never threw me out of it, but I can understand how they could for someone else.
Also great to see Tavon from The Shield.
The whole- "Don't watch trailers!" warnings really soured the movie for me. It put my mind into the setting of 'Where is the twist going to be?' Not to spoil anything, but if you have 2 brain cells and know some horror literature you can deduce the general ending 15 min in. I gave the film makers too much credit, and found myself hoping for a more complex and devilish ending than the one I predicted- like maybe another layer of meta: "The Japanese have a perfect record" tying into the unexplained tunnel glitch and the absurd Why-Is-This-Here-Red-Button-of-Doom; That the directors were being directed. Or even less clever ideas like there had been a miscalculation in that the Fool/Virgin archetypes were reversed. Anyways, I cognitively understand its unfair to judge a movie based on expectations, yet its inseparable from my final evaluation: disappointment.
